Board of Directors

CEPAL is run by an Executive Board of Directors whose objectives are to lead and manage the activities of the organization.  Directors are voted in by CEPAL’s members every year at the Annual General Meeting.  They typically come from a variety of backgrounds, either as past overseas teachers, volunteers, or supporters of CEPAL.

2010 CEPAL BOARD OF DIRECTORS

Natalie Zeitoun, President

I have a burning desire to assist Palestinian refugees in the pursuit of their basic human rights and to raise public awareness in Canada about their struggle.  I hold a bachelor’s degree in sociology and women studies from the University of Toronto.  I have traveled widely and have worked for and consulted with not-for-profit organizations for many years.

I have a solid background in public engagement and education.  My specific skill sets include strategic planning, marketing, event planning, public speaking, media relations, program management and evaluation.  I currently work for the provincial government as a regional marketing planner.  In this position I help community organizations raise awareness in order to achieve their missions.

I am proud and excited to be part of such an amazing organization and I am looking forward to growing with CEPAL in 2010 and beyond.

Wendy Chan, Overseas Program Director

My interest in the Middle East and issues related to Palestinians grew from an opportunity during my undergraduate degree to spend time in Jordan.  I have spent the past ten years studying and working in the field of international development both in Canada and overseas.  While I have remained engaged in Palestinian news and events, I had not had not had the opportunity to return to the region until 2009.  Acting as CEPAL’s 2009 Lebanon Field Coordinator allowed me the great privilege of being welcomed into the lives and homes of people in Bourj el-Barajneh, Shatila and Wavel camps, and I was able to help reconnect with a network of friends and partners in Lebanon after a 3-year hiatus in the summer program.  I’m looking forward to continuing my involvement with CEPAL as this year’s Overseas Program Director.

Liz Cooper, Communications Director

My experience as a CEPAL volunteer during the 2009 Summer Program has been one of the defining experiences of my life to date. Now entering their 62nd year as refugees, Palestinians in Lebanon are a continually marginalized group. I believe that now, more than ever, the international community should show solidarity with them in an effort to improve their political status and standing. CEPAL’s educational mandate is one that I believe makes a difference in the lives of children in the camp, something I’ve witnessed firsthand.

I have a BFA in Photography from Ryerson University and currently work in the non-profit sector.
